A product of the Great Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp at the age of 17 and served for two enlistments and later joined the US Army. He was a life long learner and strongly believed in education both formal and informal. Mr. Hebert studied in night school while welding for H.P. Snyder Bicycle Company and eventually became employed as a draftsman for Cherry Burrell Corporation, moving on to General Electric Company Radio Receiver Division and then General Electric Aerospace Division as a Design Engineer. At 50 years of age, Mr. Hebert earned a teaching certificate from Oswego State College, which led to an Industrial Drafting teaching position at Herkimer County BOCES. This award is presented to a graduating BOCES senior from the Building Technology program who has demonstrated the ability to apply theory through performance in combination with the employability skills of a positive attitude, solid attendance and a strong work ethic.
