The Southside Walking Tour to Return in 2020

As part of the 2020 Canal Days Celebration, brought back by popular demand for its SEVENTH year is the Southside Walking Tour — a look back into growing up on the Southside (1957-1970).

WHAT: The “Tour” will focus on growing up on the Southside from 1957 to 1970 with a theme that this was not “Leave It To Beaver”; “Ozzie and Harriet”, “My Three Sons”; “Donna Reed”, etc. but a very different and special experience. Entertaining history!  Excellent photo opportunity!

AUDIENCE:   Anyone with an interest in the 60’s, the Southside, or those from the Northside who never understood us, or those not from Little Falls who married Little Falls Southsiders, or their adult children!  Some “adult?” content or described behavior may not be suitable for children.  Photographers have found the Tour to provide some great shots.

WHEN: Saturday August 15, 2020, 10:30AM – ~1:30 PM, Flexibility based upon pace of attendees and stamina.

NOTES: Walk includes unpaved dirt paths, uneven surfaces, climbing up and down open stair gratings at heights, hot temperatures outdoors, etc.  Moderate to vigorous physical activity.  Water, sunglasses, hat, sun tan lotion, comfortable shoes are highly recommended.  We will try to ensure most stops are in the shade where possible, and where there are places to lean or sit and rest.

PETS: Generally not recommended, as we do come across pets along the way that are not under owner command or leash.

WHERE: Meet at the Rotary Park Terminal Building on Southern Ave! (Questions & Answers)

REGISTRATION: Advance sign up by email or phone REQUESTED and would be deeply appreciated by the Tour Guide.

However, all are told in advance, and can drop out at any time.  A few do primarily due to the time.  I have learned that the Tour can only go as fast as the slowest walker, and as the Tour progresses, some sub groups develop and side conversations and detours may occur.

The walking tour – has become loving known as the “Southside Death March” as it is always so hot in August.  There will be “I Survived the Southside Death March!” t-shirts for sale for $20 as a fund raiser for the Little Falls Historical Society.
