Little Falls High School’s Class of 1990’s Alumni, Tracy Scarano Young, recently shared with us a new opportunity she has created for the children of Benton Hall Academy called Engineering by Design (EbD) College Road Trips.  Engineering by Design is collaborating with Utica University, Herkimer County Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College to give the students a chance to see a college campus while also enriching the EbD curriculum.  Each third, fourth and fifth grade class (individually) will be given the chance to go to on a road trip to one of these colleges for some hands-on engaging lessons. The students ride the bus there with Young and Curriculum Coordinator, Kim Traut, engage in a few lessons in state of the art science labs and return to BHA. Classes are no larger than 20 students so it’s very hands-on and engaging with a lot of one on one assistance.  Both students and faculty from Benton Hall as well as at the undergraduate schools are very excited about this new collaboration and the plan is to expand the program to second graders at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in the future!
